The Grand Hospitaller implements the Order’s hospitaller policy as determined by the Grand Magistry and is thus responsible for its charitable and humanitarian endeavours, which are one of the Order’s principal objects in the modern world.

He liaises with all the hospitallers of the various national jurisdictions in order to coordinate their work. He runs international charitable projects.

The Grand Hospitaller also maintains contacts with various international bodies, both of governments and non-governmental, in order to facilitate the running of international charitable projects.
